Grudge (Vivid Fever Dreams Remix)

Thank you to Arella and Crittie (collector of my previous Catalog track, ‘Strut’) for curating the song and artwork for this release! 

When Arella picked this song, I was kinda surprised because it was one of the demos I had spent the least amount of time writing/mixing. It was created during a weekly songwriting challenge and the theme of that week was ‘Sleepless’. 

Ironically enough, I had a rough week and didn’t make any time to work on the track. The night it was due at 4 a.m, I slapped a basic chord progression and drum pattern together and improv’d most of the lyrics. Then played a quick sax solo and submitted just in time. 

I have touched it up quite a bit since the OG version and really enjoy how it came together. 

The themes of the song are about dealing with procrastination and finding inner motivation to create.  This is something that I struggle with quite a bit, and hope you can find pieces that resonate with your journey.

Sleepless Night

I wrote this song for a weekly songwriting challenge I completed back in 2022 to improve my lyricism and experiment with genres outside my comfort zone. 

Each week had a word to use as inspiration to write a track around, the word for that week was ‘Strut.’ It ended up becoming a song about dealing with imposter syndrome. 

I’ve noticed that social media encourages people to put these fake images of what their lives are like because no one wants to be seen as a failure or people want to impress their friends and family. After awhile it all gets so tiresome. So safe. So stale.  

As a musician in the social media era, I feel like you are in a constant battle with everyone else for attention. If you aren’t being noticed, you aren’t successful, your art isn’t valid. So you join in the game, building up a fake persona, hopping on trends, doing what it takes to get eyes on you.

This track is me indulging in that game.
