A Bucket of Bops

This is a cherished piece of mine (song almost doesn't cut it!) about grief.  

One thing I love about minting in Web3 is that the value comes from the activity of putting out the music and the building of community around that.  It makes me feel less intimidated about where I'm at right now as a musician; working long hours, difficulties working that creativity muscle, but tenacious regardless.  You can hear some of the chaos and the disjointedness in the track, and I think that's a part of what makes something like this valuable; while a prettier and more docile version may end up on Spotify, Catalog is where all of my raw, authentic, somewhat flawed, and fully throttled pieces land.  So thanks so much for supporting and for shouting out :)

I know valuation is a hotly debated subject, but as for now, the price for this mint is the cost of my rent and the amount will go straight there!  Thanks again.

Lemme Take Yo Mind

This track is dedicated to a long walk I had while visiting my grandparents in Decatur, GA. in 2017, just before graduating college.  I marveled at the different evolving viewpoints I had of the place as I got older, but it didn't change much.  

Ironically, my grandmother passed under a month after the walk, so things truly changed drastically after that. But for the moment that the song describes "Decatur still stayed the same."  I felt warm with the continuity and grounding it gave me while I was dealing with my chaotic college lifestyle back in Austin.

I produced this in 2017.  This was while I was in South Africa tapping into myself right after college, powering through the lost and lonely feelings I was combing through.

Although the feelings of being invisible aren't much better, the ability to just go for it anyway has increased.  So you can hear where I was at when I was just begging for that feeling to come and hold me and walk me through the path to success.

This is the first track off of my first LP "Hyperion" from 2020. The premise of the record was to sculpt a collection of songs where I focused on using vocal chops as both a lead and rhythmic element. In order to keep some sonic continuity throughout the record, every synth on here is from a single device using dozens and dozens of customized patches I made.

This song is loaded with laser sounds, collaged vocal chops, jumpy basslines, and shakers I sculpted out of little salt packets. So much of this song is about making due with what you have. I had this one synth I really liked, a bunch of royalty free vocal samples, and a field recorder to make percs with stuff around my house. I loved the idea of seeing just how much stuff I could make with such a limited number of resources. You don't always need tons of equipment and plugins and such to make lots of music, sometimes maximizing what you already have yields the best results. Ideas are ubiquitous - you can find them anywhere at any time.

There's a very limited amount of vinyl remaining for this album, and they include a folded 24" x 24" poster of the cover art. I will be sending a signed copy to the buyer of this song. Please contact me on twitter @cumulus_frisbee so I can get your contact info.

Backstory:

This was created, mixed and mastered in Ableton Live within a 1 hour time limit beat battle verses my homie DJ (PeaceOutPremiere) using only a Single Studio Monitor (speaker) i.e. Mono =/

Created on February 26th 2016 while very briefly living at DJ's crib in Tampa, FL shortly after releasing the digital version of Traversal and a few months prior to moving back to Los Angeles while finalizing the Cassette Version of Traversal.

Everyone seemed to Love this track and begged me to put it on the cassette version of Traversal,  but I declined due to not being happy with the quick mix/master of track and not wanting to revisit the session after the fact to clean it up.

Still it remains a loose track created during the "Traversal" Arc of my Life,  So even though it wasn't a part of the digital or cassette version.  I still lump it with "Traversal" in my head.

Fun Fact: 

Since it was initially released (uploaded to soundcloud right after export) at least 20 people have messaged me over the years saying they didn't realize the beat has a hidden change up at the end and asked why I sequenced it in a way where it sounds like the track ends before slowly fading back into the final change up and that no DJ would ever have a chance to include the best part of the beat in their set because of this.

My response was and always is,  I don't make music for DJs, I make music for people like me who lost their minds hearing hidden Pete Rock Interludes after songs....    I.E.  intentionally unconventionally always trying to reward to the patient ear =)
