I'm "sinning" a lot on this track.  Lyrics are more implied than spoken, beats are uncanny and out of vogue, and price is high.

"The Lecture" is the result of a class assignment I had back in 2010 to record and mix a track featuring primarily "found sounds", field recordings, anything recorded on a Zoom H2 portable stereo recorder. And since I was ripe for a challenge barely 2-3 years into making beats at the time, I went crazy recording myself to make the perfect beatbox sounds to create the backbone of one of my favorite compositions to date.

I dug this one out of the now-famous (and private) AbJonian Vault recently looking for sounds to splice up for my recent release, the "AbJonian Vault Selections", and decided to mix it down to share on-chain.

My favorite part of this recording, however, are the vocals, my very first time putting them to print ever, where the lyrics say and repeat over and over:

It was my attempt to convey my idea of the duality of being confident in one's self and the ability to deliver, while also desiring to just "be", outside of all the ongoings of purpose and the need to do anything else but.

I hope that this song resonates with you, the collector, the listener, the way it has for me since I've made it; a reminder from my past self not to forget myself and who I am before anything else in life...

another loosie from 2017 in which i apparently felt the need to prove how much i could rappity-rap lol. these are definitely a few of my favorite bars ever in here, namely "all that huffin' and puffin' don't make you Cedric Diggory / y'all merely chasers, I'm a keeper, like how i keep her when you seek her" ... in retrospect this was a cool song concept--talking about how a lot of the competition in hip-hop at my then-soundcloudish level were "here one day, gone next day" and "we can see you coming, we can see you go" then relating those things to these people as "just another cloud in the sky..." i was definitely on some irritated/slightly hating sh*t lmao. good good times

NIMBUS LAND

this song is an older one from 2017 that has always had a soft little breakfast nook of a spot in my heart. such a nice lil vibe and is a bit of a romantic getaway inside a two-minute song. i remember being ecstatic at how the ocean sounds i added into the background brought the song to life and made it feel realer.

Backstory:

The Lyrics are the true backstory.  Written shortly after I met [redacted] in 2006.  The Second verse was intentionally cut short but was not supposed to end there.  The original concept was to Document the stages of falling in love as they happen.  The pre-dating phase,  and then whatever happens from there I was going to write about as it happened.   However,  about a year later,  I got word that Rawkus Records wanted to released my Sophomore album but they needed it almost right away.   So I quickly scrambled, sequenced and polished what I could and turned in the album "Crush Your System" as is, unfinished.  Originally intended to be a double disk album,  One Disk Rhymes (Crush Your System)  and the other disk Instrumentals (Music2SleepTo...)  Since Butterflies was so short and endedabruptly,  I decided to Fuse one the instrumentals i produced into the story.  A precursor to the track that followed it.  A Deep House track I made. which must of confused people at the time it was released that A Instrumental Deep House track was on HipHop album with all rhymes haha.   My ex fiance'  is the one who put me onto deep house, which played a major role in my life and how I would hear / feel  / sequence music moving forward.  

I never got to finish writing the original concept and documenting the full stages of the relationship,  But she was really dope,  I loved her alot.  We danced very often.  She was beautiful, intelligent,  inspiring, soulful and driven,  but also super jealous, insecure & more focused on status & perceived value, A weird mixture of Badu & The Kardashians...    I was  an Artist, in my mid 20's,  off my 2nd album, floating through life, not  as as traditionally responsible  and didn't had the same  Life goals or values.   It didn't end well,  starving artist isn't everyone's cup of tea.  It was a dope Arc of my life,  she would probably disagree haha.


Parted ways, and moved onto the next ark.  Entered my first real depressive phase, but ended up being a very progressive phase.  Fall to Rise and all that jazzz.  The Yawn of the Gemini  / Blue Screen of Deaf. / Romanticizing Arc. Until lil Dutchy met his next love & future/last heartt break......
