Wes Period and I met as two scraggly misfit kids, touring through the Southern summer heat like a roving band of pirates. Our maniacal, border-line hyperactive personalities fit together like a two-piece puzzle, so it was only right when we linked up in 2015 for a Los Angeles writing session. Cut to a Sawtelle Blvd. lockout studio, smelling of stale blunt smoke, with muffled, out of key 808’s leaking from underneath the doors. Upon walking into Wes' magical domain, I knew that we’d come out with a hit. Little did I know, it would be this tune, “Offline.”

I swear to god, Wes whipped up this beat in a hair over five minutes. That’s not to say he rushed greatness, it just shows how meticulously and effectively he can execute his vision. What a stud. Fast forward seven years and the 16 bars that sat empty, waiting to be filled, like a church at sunrise on a Sunday, have finally been blessed. Not by any random that $700 and a SoundCloud repost could entice, but by the producer, writer, and overall legend himself; Wes Period.

Offline feat. Wes Period

It doesn’t tend to get too cold in LA in November, but boy was it frigid on this day. It must’ve been due to state of my heart, an opaque block of ice, impervious to warmth and the gentle touch of love. Weighed down by my frosty demeanor, I trudged into Cooper Holzman’s off-campus USC apartment with zero expectations for our first ever session together. After enough small talk to bore even a Ralph’s cashier, Cooper immediately set the tone with that damn infectious, bubbly Rhodes you hear right off the bat.

The ice in my veins suddenly melted like a New England brook in springtime. I was transported to a deserted beach somewhere near the equator, and began musing about how I let myself become such a cold-hearted fuckboy in the first place. Love. Unobtainable, forever fleeting love. Two hours and two burritos later, enter: “Alone Time.” A Khruangbin-inspired, tropical hip hop/surf rock song about my aforementioned old ways. 

This is my second ever minted music NFT, and my biggest song to date. With over 1.5M streams on Sp****y, and sync potential for days, it’s safe to say we caught an undeniable ~voibe.~ Life gets hard, but at the end of the day, “it’s all love, money, drugs, sex and art.”

Alone Time

Hey hey, I’m Carter Reeves. This is my first ever solo minted music NFT, and I am thrilled to share it with you all here on Catalog. Formerly one half of the duo Aer, and now the lead singer of a group called Surfer Girl, I am no stranger to the music industry - although still rather green in the Web3 space. This NFT is my first step toward regaining creative control and freedom that feels ever so hard to capture as an independent artist. Thank you!

This song is somewhat of an enigma. "Heartbreak Standard Time,” or “HST” for short, existed solely on SoundCloud for a fleeting moment before completely vanishing… until now. I wrote this song with my friend and long time collaborator Alex Bilowitz (writer on BTS’ smash ‘Butter’) on a cold Crown Heights day in February 2017. The song was deemed “unfit for release” despite my persistent suspicions it would deeply connect with my audience. A few knives in the back, and burnt bridges later - I sneakily dropped it on SoundCloud. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the song was quickly removed. It may have disappeared forever, but the hype didn’t. The few people who caught wind of the song before it was taken down have incessantly hounded me to re-release it . So here it is, “Heartbreak Standard Time.” Enjoy.

Ten years ago today when we were 16, we released our first original 9 track project, "Medina." These recordings were later taken down, and lost to time. Happy to announce we're auctioning off a 1/1 NFT of the Medina EP for one fan to call their own.

The last song on my first ever EP. As an artist I've always wanted to put together a coherent body of work, and ending it with Benjamin Button made so much sense to me. I made this song a few months after moving to LA and it feels like a turning point in my sound for years to come. The song is about reconnecting with feelings of childhood and reminding yourself to not take yourself too seriously.
